Peter Weiss

District 4 Oceanside City Council

I am humbled by the wide array of support and encouragement I have received from residents, businesses and community groups to run for re-election in 2024. Thank you for your continued support!

I was elected to the Council representing District 4 in November of 2020 and am running for reelection on November 5, 2024.  I was previously appointed Mayor in January 2018 after the resignation of Mayor Jim Wood. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering Technology from the University of Pittsburgh in 1981. I am a registered Civil Engineer and Land Surveyor and have been involved with the City of Oceanside since 1986. I  was the City Engineer and Public Works Director before becoming City Manager.

My wife, Janet and I have raised four children who all attended El Camino High School.  Over the years, I have been active in Boy Scouts and a variety of youth sports programs.  I am still active in community sports as a coach and referee for the Tri-City Inline Hockey League. I also still play ice hockey for “The Cheese,” and I entertain Oceansider’s as a musician at local venues.

I spent almost seven years as City Manager- so I am familiar with all aspects of local government, I have the skills, experience and unique qualifications to represent the City.  I have demonstrated my support for businesses and overall economic development to expand the City’s tax base. Over the past few years we have created a positive investment environment that has successfully attracted new businesses and development. We need continue those efforts in order to provide programs and services to our community.

I am asking for your vote on November 5th, 2024

Homelessness is one of the biggest issues we face and one of my top priorities. Over the past few years, I spearheaded the City’s partnership with the San Diego Rescue Mission to create our homeless navigation center which has made a significant difference. But more still needs to be done.

I pushed for more funding for street repairs and road improvements and many of the streets in our district have seen the results of that effort. But again, more needs to be done. We also need to make sure our Public Safety programs have what they need to protect and take care of us.

I pledge to be responsive to you on issues large and small. Whether its potholes, stop signs or public safety. I will always be personally available to hear your concerns. Your priorities are my priorities.
